Brooms & Brushes

There are various styles of brooms. Push brooms have a long, flat head and are mostly used to push dirt out of an area. Used to sweep out tack rooms, aisles, and horse trailers/horse boxes, sweeper brooms are upright with bristles that can be cut straight across or on an angle. Brooms can be made from different kinds of materials with the most common being corn, coco, and PVC. Harder or stiffer brooms work best on rough surfaces. Brooms with bristles made with a softer brush material work better on smoother surfaces. PVC brooms are very useful when sweeping up wetter and/or muddier debris. It is highly recommended that you have at least one push broom and one sweeper broom in the stable at all times so that you can keep all areas of your barn clean and dirt free.

Brushes are not only used for grooming, there are brushes designed to keep your barn equipment dirt free. Around the barn, you can use a handheld bannister brush with plastic or metal dustpan to dust off shelves, stall ledges, as well as other small surfaces. Use scrub brushes to keep all your feed and water buckets spotless. Brushes with harder bristles work well when cleaning up very dirty as well as wet and muddy items. Those made with softer bristles come in handy when a lite dusting on smoother surfaces is needed.
